Master Cleanser: Day 8

So yesterday was the first day that I can truly say that I didn't even try to eat real food. Althought I thought about pizza several times in the evening.

I went to a presentation on cleaning without chemicals today. It was very informative, and I have renewed energy for doing just that. There is too much garbage in the environment already.

I'm going in to work tomorrow. Finally. Should be interesting. I still don't have a complete "I'm ready for school" attitude. This summer went by all too quickly.

Master Cleanser: Da y 1

I don't know if anyone reads this anymore, but that's alright. I'm journalling so that I keep myself on track. If you want to add comments, that's fine by me!

So, today was supposed to be Day 3, but as usual, I had a hard time committing to the cleanse. Day 1 (Friday) I gave up in the evening when I saw a chocolate-filled croissant at Superstore. (They are SOOO good). I gave myself the excuse that they were on sale, and that I would start fresh in the morning. And yesterday, I had huge carb cravings and made pancakes in the evening. They didn't even taste that great after all!

I didn't have the energy to drink the tea last night, so I made all kinds of excuses. But this morning I awoke with new resolve. I drank the salt-water flush, although I didn't drink as much as I should have, and therefore felt a lot better about it than I should have. Hee hee. But I've made my fresh lemonade/maple syrup/cayenne pepper drink for the day. So far, it's helped squash the renewed cravings I had for pastries this morning.

I nearly had to go to the store for cayenne pepper because I couldn't find anymore in my cupboard. And wouldn't you know that all I thought about was chocolate-filled croissants and how I could just sneak one in before I started my day....Why didn't it occur to me to go to a different store? No idea. Thank God that I found the other container of cayenne pepper and was able to avoid the store!

I need to stay on track. I had already gotten sloppy this summer, and gained a couple of pounds. But since injured my knee, I can't exercise, and I really can't afford to gain anymore weight simply by lack of movement PLUS sloppy eating. So I'm cleansing my system out before school starts, so that I will be able to start eating properly again. I have renewed my resolve.

The big test is going to be the back-to-school time with colleagues. So many of us eat out together during that time! I need to stay focused each day and cart my lemonade with me. NO EXCUSES!

When I've finished the master cleanser, I'd like to continue reforming my eating habits by adhering to a primarily if not totally raw eating regimen for at least 21 days. After all, it takes 21 days to form a new habit, right?

As soon as my physical therapist tells me that I can start exercising again, I'll be looking into regular walking, and eventually running. I miss running. I see people running outdoors and I get so jealous!! And I'll get my bike ready and also do some swimming. And I will certainly be doing strength training regularly. I think that was the reason why I got injured in the first place. Just my little theory. Not enough muscle strength.

So that's the plan for the next 31 days. If you are reading this, pray that I will stick to it. My health depends on it!

Lessons from physiotherapy

Today was a full day. I hobbled around and delivered 127 papers this morning, went back to bed, watched TV, had a heated discussion on the phone with my boyfriend, went to my first physio session for me knee, did some retail therapy at Sears and found really cheap yet plush washcloths, and decided to treat myself to a movie. I saw Hairspray and LOVED it!!!! It made me want to dance. Reminded me of the way I felt watching musicals when I was a little girl. Oklahoma, Sound of Music....each of those made me wish I knew how to dance and sing simultaneously. :)

Physio was painful today. I had an assessment done (the PT says I've injured two ligaments: LCL and PCL). I had what seemed like shock therapy to my ligaments from an IFT machine, and then the PT did some stretches which hurt like mad! I have some exercises to do twice a day as well. I'll be going back 3 times a week over a couple of weeks. This is all new to me.

The lesson that I was reminded of during my physio session was that pain makes me teachable. When I have pain, I am willing to learn how to fix it, and more importantly, how to avoid it the next time! This applies to so many areas of my life right now: spiritual, physical, even emotional. These heated discussions with my boyfriend aren't my favourite part, and him being turned away from his flight in Chicago yesterday wasn't fun, but in all of this, I am growing and learning how to do things better in the future. I'm willing to look for the reason why he didn't come yesterday. What's the divine reason behind it? Whatever it is, I am more teachable because of the pain in my life, be it great or small.

Latest developments...

So I've been a homeowner for nearly two months now, and I love it. I had a rough couple of weeks with a renter that was just not a good fit, and even though there are some things that still need to be sorted out on that front, I'm in good spirits. This house is such a blessing!

I'm in Week 6 of my summer holidays and the time has just flown! I was super busy the first few weeks trying to get all of my stuff moved in, and helping friends with their projects as well. I even learned how to paint and how to lay laminate flooring---in a friend's house :)

I've also been spending a lot of time getting to know a guy who has since become very dear to me. It's still odd having a boyfriend long-distance. And our initial phone bills were QUITE hefty. We've learned our lesson and both subscribed to lovely long-distance phone plans since then. He's a really sweet man, and I'm so happy to know him. This whole thing needs a lot of prayer, so send some up on our behalf, ok?

Speaking of men, I just found out that my ex. is getting married. I knew it all along, and I even told him that eons ago. This just goes to prove my hogwosh theory that I'm a preparatory girlfriend. I started dating late in life (he he) and both exes have married the very next woman they were in a relationship with. I must have some super powers that make men realize they want to be married...just not to me. lol. Just kidding. It really wouldn't have worked out with me anyway.

I went to a lovely wedding a couple of weekends ago. Young couple who met online. I helped serve at the reception and silly me was wearing some major heels that day. I looked cute but my feet hurt SO much that I eventually had to take off my shoes! I was glad to be able to help, though. Everything turned out really well.

And then just when I was getting my butt in gear and getting back into shape, I go and pop my knee at a soccer match last night. It REALLY hurt. It's a bit better today, and I can put a bit more weight on my left foot, but doing my paper route this morning didn't help. Couldn't find a sub. There is some swelling, but I don't think it's nearly as bad as it could have been.

Ironically, I had finally decided to put air into my bike tires this week. Guess I won't be needing to after all! GRRR. And my big plans for rollerblading have been put on hold as well.

I'm just grateful that it happened before school started up again! Hurrah for summer vacation and teacher's benefits! I don't even want to imagine having to negociate stairs and long corridors on the way to my classroom.

Ha. I just thought of another positive thing. If I can't walk around much, I can't go shopping and spend money! Youpi!
